Celebrate Independence Day with a vibrant splash of color and health! This incredibly easy 4th of July Fruit Platter transforms simple fresh fruits into a stunning, edible American flag. It’s a refreshing, delicious, and absolutely gorgeous centerpiece perfect for any patriotic gathering, delighting both kids and adults.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced lengthwise
- 1 pint fresh raspberries (optional, for additional red stripes)
- 1 pint fresh blueberries
- 3-4 medium bananas, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds (slice just before serving)
- 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt or whipped cream (optional, for white stripes or dipping)
- 1 large rectangular platter or cutting board
Instructions
- Wash all strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries thoroughly. Pat dry the strawberries and raspberries.
- Hull the strawberries and slice them lengthwise into halves or quarters, depending on their size. If using raspberries, leave them whole.
- Choose a large rectangular platter or cutting board that will serve as the base for your flag. Ensure it’s clean and dry.
- In the top-left corner of your platter, arrange the fresh blueberries to form a rectangular ‘blue field’ or canton. This section should cover roughly one-third the width and one-third the height of your platter.
- Begin creating the red stripes. Place a neat row of sliced strawberries (or raspberries) directly below the blueberry field, extending the full width of the platter.
- For the white stripes, you have two options:
a. Slice bananas into 1/2-inch thick rounds just before you are ready to serve to prevent browning. Arrange a row of banana slices below the first red stripe.
b. Alternatively, you can use vanilla Greek yogurt or whipped cream. Pipe or spread a neat row of your chosen white element below the first red stripe. - Continue alternating rows of red fruit (strawberries/raspberries) and white (banana slices or yogurt/whipped cream) until the platter is full. Aim for an approximation of the 13 stripes, adjusting to fit your platter size. Ensure the stripes run parallel to the longer side of your platter.
- Serve your stunning 4th of July American Flag Fruit Platter immediately, especially if using bananas or whipped cream, to ensure maximum freshness and visual appeal.
