  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings 1x

Description

Delicious and easy Philly Cheesesteak Cheesy Bread, perfect as an appetizer or meal! Loaded with steak, caramelized onions and peppers, and melted provolone and mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (1 pound) Italian bread, halved lengthwise
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin recommended)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces sliced provolone cheese
  • 4 ounces sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: If steak isn’t thinly sliced, partially freeze for 30 minutes for easier slicing (1/8 inch thick).
  2. Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add steak in batches (don’t overcrowd). Cook 1-2 minutes per side, until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook Vegetables: Add sliced onion and green bell pepper to the same skillet. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until softened and slightly caramelized (8-10 minutes).
  4. Season Vegetables: Season the cooked onions and peppers with a pinch of salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir to combine and cook for another minute to let the flavors meld together.
  5. Combine Steak and Vegetables: Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the onions and peppers. Toss everything together to combine and heat through.
  6. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Prepare Bread: Cut Italian bread loaf in half lengthwise.
  8. Make Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  9. Spread Sauce: Spread the mayonnaise mixture evenly over the cut sides of both halves of the Italian bread.
  10. Assemble: Layer half of the provolone cheese slices over the mayonnaise-covered bread halves.
  11. Add Steak and Vegetables: Spoon the steak and vegetable mixture evenly over the provolone cheese.
  12. Top with Cheese: Top the steak and vegetable mixture with the remaining provolone cheese slices and the mozzarella cheese slices.
  13. Add Red Pepper Flakes (Optional): If desired, sprinkle a pinch of red pepper flakes over the cheese.
  14. Bake: Place the assembled cheesy bread halves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the crust of the bread with the melted butter.
  15. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is golden brown.
  16. Cool and Slice: Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  17. Garnish: Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
  18. Serve: Serve immediately.
