  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Flaky salmon fillets glazed with a vibrant and flavorful orange ginger sauce. Pan-seared, baked, or grilled to perfection!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets, skin on or off
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (about 2 large oranges)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium is best)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions
  • Orange slices

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together orange juice, soy sauce, honey, grated ginger, minced garlic, and rice vinegar.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, or until slightly reduced and thickened, stirring occasionally.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
  4. Slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the simmering glaze, whisking constantly until thickened.
  5. Taste and adjust flavor as needed (more honey for sweetness, rice vinegar for tang, red pepper flakes for heat).
  6. Remove from heat and set aside.
  7. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Score the skin if using skin-on fillets.
  8. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  9. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with 1 tablespoon olive oil.
  10. Sear salmon, skin-side down (if using), for 4-5 minutes until crispy and golden brown. For skinless salmon, sear for 3-4 minutes per side.
  11. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until cooked through (145°F/63°C).
  12. During the last minute, brush generously with orange ginger glaze.
  13. Remove from pan.
  14. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  15. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  16. Place salmon on the baking sheet, skin-side down (if using).
  17. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until cooked through (145°F/63°C).
  18. During the last 5 minutes, brush generously with orange ginger glaze.
  19. Broil for the last 1-2 minutes for a more caramelized glaze (optional).
  20. Remove from oven.
  21. Preheat grill to medium heat.
  22. Clean and oil the grill grates.
  23. Place salmon on the grill, skin-side down (if using).
  24. Grill for about 4-5 minutes per side, until cooked through (145°F/63°C).
  25. During the last minute, brush generously with orange ginger glaze.
  26. Remove from grill.
  27. Plate the cooked salmon.
  28. Garnish with sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and orange slices (optional).
  29. Serve immediately with rice, vegetables, or salad.

Notes

  • Low sodium soy sauce is recommended for the glaze.
  • Scoring the salmon skin prevents curling during cooking.
  • Internal temperature of salmon should reach 145°F (63°C).
  • Adjust the glaze flavor to your preference.
