Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1 cup Nutella (or any hazelnut spread)
  • Sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips using a spatula or wooden spoon.
  6. Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the dough to an airtight container.
  7. Refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for better results.
  8. Using a spoon or small cookie scoop, portion out about 1 tablespoon of Nutella and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Repeat until you have about 12-15 Nutella dollops, leaving space between each.
  10. Freeze the baking sheet for about 15-20 minutes until the Nutella is firm.
  11. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  12. Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator. Take about 2 tablespoons of dough and flatten it slightly in your palm.
  13. Place a frozen dollop of Nutella in the center of the flattened dough and fold the edges over the Nutella, pinching to seal completely.
  14. Roll the stuffed dough into a ball and place it on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  15. If desired, sprinkle a tiny pinch of sea salt on top of each cookie before baking.
  16. Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  17. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For best results, chill the dough longer for thicker cookies.
  • You can substitute Nutella with any hazelnut spread of your choice.
  • Adjust the amount of chocolate chips based on your preference.
