  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 12-16 treats 1x

Description

These Leprechaun Bait Treats are a festive twist on classic Rice Krispies treats, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day! Coated in vibrant green candy melts and topped with gold sprinkles, they are a fun and delicious treat that will delight both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 cup of mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of green candy melts
  • 1/2 cup of gold sprinkles
  • 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of crushed pretzels
  • 1/2 cup of mini chocolate candies (like M&M’s)
  • 1/4 cup of edible glitter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients on a clean countertop. This will make the process smoother and more enjoyable.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir it occasionally to ensure it doesn’t burn.
  3. Once the butter is melted, add the mini marshmallows to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Next, add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir gently but thoroughly until all the cereal is evenly coated.
  6. Once the cereal is well-coated, let the mixture cool for a few minutes. It should be warm but not hot to the touch.
  7. Prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish by greasing it lightly with butter or lining it with parchment paper.
  8. Transfer the Rice Krispies mixture into the prepared baking dish. Using a spatula or your hands (dampened to prevent sticking), press the mixture down firmly and evenly into the dish.
  9. Allow the mixture to cool completely at room temperature, about 30 minutes. If you’re in a hurry, you can pop it in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
  10. While the Rice Krispies treats are cooling, melt the green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl.
  11. Microwave the candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until they are completely melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat them.
  12. Once melted, let the candy coating cool slightly before using it.
  13. Once the Rice Krispies treats are completely cooled, remove them from the baking dish.
  14. Using a sharp knife, cut the treats into squares or rectangles, about 2-inch pieces.
  15. Dip each piece of the Rice Krispies treat into the melted green candy coating, ensuring all sides are coated.
  16. Place the treats on a wire rack or a piece of parchment paper to allow the excess coating to drip off.
  17. While the candy coating is still wet, sprinkle the gold sprinkles generously over the top of each treat.
  18. For an extra touch, sprinkle some edible glitter on top for that magical sparkle (optional).
  19. Once all the treats are coated and decorated, let them sit for about 15-20 minutes to set.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize the toppings with your favorite candies or sprinkles.
