These Leprechaun Bait Treats are a festive twist on classic Rice Krispies treats, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day! Coated in vibrant green candy melts and topped with gold sprinkles, they are a fun and delicious treat that will delight both kids and adults.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 cup of mini marshmallows
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 cup of green candy melts
- 1/2 cup of gold sprinkles
- 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup of crushed pretzels
- 1/2 cup of mini chocolate candies (like M&M’s)
- 1/4 cup of edible glitter (optional)
Instructions
- Start by gathering all your ingredients on a clean countertop. This will make the process smoother and more enjoyable.
- In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir it occasionally to ensure it doesnt burn.
- Once the butter is melted, add the mini marshmallows to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Next, add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir gently but thoroughly until all the cereal is evenly coated.
- Once the cereal is well-coated, let the mixture cool for a few minutes. It should be warm but not hot to the touch.
- Prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish by greasing it lightly with butter or lining it with parchment paper.
- Transfer the Rice Krispies mixture into the prepared baking dish. Using a spatula or your hands (dampened to prevent sticking), press the mixture down firmly and evenly into the dish.
- Allow the mixture to cool completely at room temperature, about 30 minutes. If youre in a hurry, you can pop it in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
- While the Rice Krispies treats are cooling, melt the green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave the candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until they are completely melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat them.
- Once melted, let the candy coating cool slightly before using it.
- Once the Rice Krispies treats are completely cooled, remove them from the baking dish.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the treats into squares or rectangles, about 2-inch pieces.
- Dip each piece of the Rice Krispies treat into the melted green candy coating, ensuring all sides are coated.
- Place the treats on a wire rack or a piece of parchment paper to allow the excess coating to drip off.
- While the candy coating is still wet, sprinkle the gold sprinkles generously over the top of each treat.
- For an extra touch, sprinkle some edible glitter on top for that magical sparkle (optional).
- Once all the treats are coated and decorated, let them sit for about 15-20 minutes to set.
Notes
- Feel free to customize the toppings with your favorite candies or sprinkles.
- Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
