Kiwi Citrus Homemade Gatorade: The Ultimate Refreshing Recipe

  • Total Time: 135 minutes
  • Yield: 7 cups 1x

Description

A refreshing and healthy homemade electrolyte drink with kiwi and citrus, perfect for rehydration after workouts or on hot days. Control the ingredients and avoid artificial additives!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups filtered water
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (about 34 oranges)
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 34 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 23 limes)
  • 2 kiwis, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup honey (or more, to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (or Himalayan pink salt)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon magnesium chloride flakes (for added electrolytes)
  • Optional: Ice cubes, for serving

Instructions

  1. Blend the Kiwi: Place peeled and chopped kiwis in a blender. Blend until completely smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
  2. Strain (Optional): For a smoother drink, pour kiwi puree through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth-lined colander. Press to extract juice, discarding solids.
  3. Juice Citrus: Juice oranges, lemons, and limes. Remove any seeds.
  4. Combine Juices: In a large pitcher, combine strained kiwi juice (or puree), orange juice, lemon juice, and lime juice. Stir well.
  5. Add Honey: Pour honey into the pitcher. Start with 1/4 cup and adjust to taste. Stir until dissolved.
  6. Add Salt: Add sea salt (or Himalayan pink salt) to the pitcher. Stir until dissolved.
  7. Optional: Magnesium Chloride: If using, add magnesium chloride flakes. Stir until dissolved.
  8. Add Water: Pour filtered water into the pitcher. Stir well.
  9. Taste and Adjust: Taste and adjust honey, citrus, or salt to your liking.
  10. Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  11. Serve: Pour chilled Gatorade into glasses filled with ice. Garnish with fruit slices if desired.
  12. Store: Store leftover Gatorade in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

  • Straining the kiwi puree will result in a smoother drink.
