A refreshing and healthy homemade electrolyte drink with kiwi and citrus, perfect for rehydration after workouts or on hot days. Control the ingredients and avoid artificial additives!
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups filtered water
- 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (about 3–4 oranges)
- 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 3–4 lemons)
- 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 2–3 limes)
- 2 kiwis, peeled and roughly chopped
- 1/4 cup honey (or more, to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (or Himalayan pink salt)
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon magnesium chloride flakes (for added electrolytes)
- Optional: Ice cubes, for serving
Instructions
- Blend the Kiwi: Place peeled and chopped kiwis in a blender. Blend until completely smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
- Strain (Optional): For a smoother drink, pour kiwi puree through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth-lined colander. Press to extract juice, discarding solids.
- Juice Citrus: Juice oranges, lemons, and limes. Remove any seeds.
- Combine Juices: In a large pitcher, combine strained kiwi juice (or puree), orange juice, lemon juice, and lime juice. Stir well.
- Add Honey: Pour honey into the pitcher. Start with 1/4 cup and adjust to taste. Stir until dissolved.
- Add Salt: Add sea salt (or Himalayan pink salt) to the pitcher. Stir until dissolved.
- Optional: Magnesium Chloride: If using, add magnesium chloride flakes. Stir until dissolved.
- Add Water: Pour filtered water into the pitcher. Stir well.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste and adjust honey, citrus, or salt to your liking.
- Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
- Serve: Pour chilled Gatorade into glasses filled with ice. Garnish with fruit slices if desired.
- Store: Store leftover Gatorade in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
