Description
Foolproof, fluffy rice every time! This Instant Pot recipe delivers perfectly cooked rice with minimal effort.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups long-grain white rice (such as Basmati or Jasmine)
- 2 1/2 cups water (or broth for added flavor)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, helps prevent sticking)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
Instructions
- Rinse the Rice: Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse it under cold running water for about 1-2 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
- Add Ingredients to the Instant Pot: Pour the rinsed rice into the Instant Pot. Add the water (or broth), olive oil (if using), and salt. Stir gently to combine.
- Secure the Lid: Place the Instant Pot lid on top and make sure it’s properly sealed. Turn the steam release valve to the “Sealing” position.
- Cook on High Pressure: Press the “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” button. Set the cooking time to 3 minutes.
- Natural Pressure Release (NPR): Once the cooking time is up, let the Instant Pot naturally release the pressure for 10 minutes.
- Release Remaining Pressure (if any): After 10 minutes of natural pressure release, carefully release any remaining pressure by turning the steam release valve to the “Venting” position.
- Open the Lid: Once all the pressure is released and the pin drops, carefully open the Instant Pot lid.
- Fluff the Rice: Use a fork to gently fluff the rice.
- Let it Rest (Optional): For even better results, let the rice rest for a few minutes after fluffing.
- Serve and Enjoy! Serve the rice hot as a side dish with your favorite meals.
Notes
- Rice Type: Basmati or Jasmine rice work best.
- Rinsing: Rinsing is crucial to prevent sticky rice.
- Broth: Use broth instead of water for added flavor.
- Natural Pressure Release: Do not skip the 10-minute natural pressure release.
- Variations: Add aromatics like bay leaf or garlic for extra flavor. Try coconut milk for coconut rice or saffron for saffron rice.
- Brown Rice: For brown rice, use 1 cup rice and 1 1/4 cups water. Cook for 22 minutes on high pressure, followed by a 10-minute natural pressure release.
- Quinoa: For quinoa, use 1 cup quinoa and 1 3/4 cups water. Cook for 1 minute on high pressure, followed by a 10-minute natural pressure release.
- Preventing Sticking: Ensure rice is fully submerged in liquid.
- Adjusting Salt: Adjust salt to taste, considering the sodium content of broth if used.
- Doubling Recipe: You can easily double or triple this recipe to make a larger batch of rice. Just make sure not to fill the Instant Pot more than two-thirds full. The cooking time will remain the same.
- Storing Leftovers: Leftover rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat it in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of water to prevent it from drying out.
