This Hot Milk Cake is a moist and fluffy dessert that’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion. With its rich flavor and simple preparation, it’s sure to be a hit in your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the whole milk and unsalted butter. Heat over medium, stirring until the butter melts and the mixture is hot but not boiling. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg (if using).
  4. In another bowl, beat the granulated sugar and eggs with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract for another minute.
  6. Gradually pour the warm milk and butter mixture into the egg and sugar mixture while mixing on low speed.
  7. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  8. Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray, or line with parchment paper.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Once cool, dust the top with powdered sugar if desired.
  13. Cut into squares or rectangles and serve plain, or with whipped cream or ice cream.
  14. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing.
  • Ground nutmeg adds a lovely warmth; don’t skip it if you enjoy spice.
  • Feel free to experiment with flavors like lemon zest or chocolate chips.
