Ingredients
Scale
- 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Olive oil, for cooking
Instructions
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Whisk the ingredients together until the honey is fully dissolved and the mixture is well combined.
- Taste the marinade and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
- Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.
- Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring each fillet is well coated.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap or seal the bag, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, ideally for 1 to 2 hours.
- Remove the salmon from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) if baking.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with olive oil.
- If baking, place the marinated salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet, skin-side down.
- Drizzle a little olive oil over the top of each fillet.
- Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
- For stovetop cooking, heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Cook the salmon fillets skin-side down for about 4-5 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
- For grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat and cook the salmon skin-side down for about 6-8 minutes per side.
- While the salmon is cooking, prepare a glaze using the leftover marinade.
- Pour the remaining marinade into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.
- In the last few minutes of cooking, brush the thickened glaze over the salmon fillets.
- Once cooked, let the salmon rest for a couple of minutes.
- Transfer the salmon fillets to a serving platter.
- Drizzle any remaining glaze over the top.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
- Serve with your choice of sides, such as steamed rice, quinoa, or a fresh green salad.
