Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil, for cooking

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  2. Whisk the ingredients together until the honey is fully dissolved and the mixture is well combined.
  3. Taste the marinade and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  4. Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.
  5. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring each fillet is well coated.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap or seal the bag, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, ideally for 1 to 2 hours.
  7. Remove the salmon from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) if baking.
  9. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with olive oil.
  10. If baking, place the marinated salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet, skin-side down.
  11. Drizzle a little olive oil over the top of each fillet.
  12. Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  13. For stovetop cooking, heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Cook the salmon fillets skin-side down for about 4-5 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  14. For grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat and cook the salmon skin-side down for about 6-8 minutes per side.
  15. While the salmon is cooking, prepare a glaze using the leftover marinade.
  16. Pour the remaining marinade into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil.
  17. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.
  18. In the last few minutes of cooking, brush the thickened glaze over the salmon fillets.
  19. Once cooked, let the salmon rest for a couple of minutes.
  20. Transfer the salmon fillets to a serving platter.
  21. Drizzle any remaining glaze over the top.
  22. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
  23. Serve with your choice of sides, such as steamed rice, quinoa, or a fresh green salad.
