  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A refreshing Mexican cocktail with tequila, grapefruit & lime juice, and grapefruit soda. Easy to make and perfect for warm weather!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 ounces fresh grapefruit juice, preferably ruby red
  • 2 ounces tequila blanco (silver)
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 2 ounces grapefruit soda (such as Jarritos or Squirt)
  • 1/2 ounce agave nectar, or to taste (optional, depending on grapefruit sweetness)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Grapefruit wedge, for garnish
  • Lime wedge, for garnish
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt for rimming the glass (optional)

Instructions

  1. Salting the Rim (Optional): If desired, moisten the rim of a highball glass with a grapefruit or lime wedge. Pour salt onto a small plate and gently press the rim of the glass into the salt, rotating until coated. Set aside.
  2. Combine Juices: In a cocktail shaker, combine fresh grapefruit juice, tequila blanco, and fresh lime juice.
  3. Add Agave Nectar (Optional): If desired, add agave nectar to taste.
  4. Add Salt: Add a pinch of salt to the shaker.
  5. Add Ice: Fill the cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  6. Shake Well: Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  7. Strain: Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice. Strain the cocktail mixture into the glass.
  8. Top with Grapefruit Soda: Gently top the glass with grapefruit soda.
  9. Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to gently stir the cocktail to combine.
  10. Garnish: Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and/or lime wedge. Other garnish options include a rosemary sprig or a dehydrated grapefruit slice.

Notes

  • Freshly squeezed grapefruit and lime juice are essential for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of agave nectar to your taste, depending on the sweetness of the grapefruit.
  • For a spicy kick, add a slice of jalapeño to the shaker.
  • Experiment with reposado tequila for a richer flavor.
  • Omit the tequila for a refreshing mocktail.
  • To make a batch, combine the grapefruit juice, tequila, lime juice, agave nectar, and salt in a pitcher. Stir well and refrigerate until ready to serve. When serving, pour the mixture into glasses filled with ice and top with grapefruit soda.
