Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup melted butter (for brushing)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (for extra flavor)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder. Whisk until well mixed.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the minced garlic, chopped parsley, chives, and thyme gently to combine.
- Pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined. If using cheddar cheese, fold it in now.
- Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Knead gently a few times until it comes together.
- Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Cut into squares or use a biscuit cutter to create round biscuits.
- Place the cut biscuits onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each.
- Brush the tops with melted butter before baking.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding different herbs or spices to the dough.
- Serve warm with butter or honey, or pair with soups and stews.
- For storage, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
