  • Total Time: 255 minutes
  • Yield: 2-4 servings 1x

Description

Icy and refreshing twist on a classic! This frozen Shirley Temple blends grenadine, cherry, orange, and lemon juices with bubbly ginger ale for a perfect summer treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12 ounce) can of ginger ale, chilled
  • 1/2 cup grenadine syrup
  • 1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice (from the jar)
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed is best!
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Maraschino cherries, for garnish
  • Orange slices, for garnish (optional)
  • Ice cubes, as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shirley Temple Base: In a medium-sized bowl or large measuring cup, combine grenadine syrup, maraschino cherry juice, orange juice, and lemon juice. Stir well.
  2. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more lemon juice if too sweet, or more grenadine if too tart.
  3. Pour the juice mixture into ice cube trays, filling each compartment almost to the top.
  4. Freeze for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, until completely solid.
  5. Blend the Frozen Shirley Temple: Gather your blender and chilled ginger ale.
  6. Remove frozen juice cubes from trays and let them sit for a minute or two to soften slightly.
  7. Place about half of the frozen juice cubes into the blender.
  8. Add about 1/4 cup of chilled ginger ale to help the blender get started.
  9. Blend until smooth and slushy, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed. Add more ginger ale as needed to achieve the desired consistency.
  10. Adjust consistency by adding more ginger ale if too thick, or more frozen juice cubes if too thin.
  11. Serving and Garnishing: Pour the frozen Shirley Temple into glasses.
  12. Garnish with maraschino cherries and orange slices (optional).
  13. Serve immediately.
