Ingredients
Scale
- 6 large lemons
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
- Thin lemon slices (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Wash the lemons thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or pesticides.
- Roll each lemon on the countertop with your palm to release more juice.
- Cut the lemons in half crosswise using a sharp knife.
- Squeeze the juice from each lemon half into a measuring cup using a citrus juicer or a fork.
- Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher to remove seeds and pulp.
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar completely dissolves (about 3-5 minutes).
- Remove from heat and let it cool. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and cooled simple syrup.
- Add 4 cups of cold water, adjusting to taste preference.
- Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.
- For a minty twist, muddle fresh mint leaves in the bottom of the pitcher before adding the lemonade mixture.
- Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill.
- Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled lemonade over the ice.
- Garnish with thin lemon slices and fresh mint leaves for a decorative touch.
Notes
- For variations, consider adding fresh berries, using sparkling water, or experimenting with different herbs.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more lemon juice or simple syrup as needed.
- Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator and stir before serving if separation occurs.
