  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 6 cups 1x

Description

This homemade lemonade is a refreshing blend of tart and sweet flavors, perfect for hot summer days. Made with fresh lemons and a simple syrup, it can be easily customized with herbs or berries for a unique twist. Enjoy it chilled over ice for the ultimate thirst-quencher!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large lemons
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Thin lemon slices (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Wash the lemons thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or pesticides.
  2. Roll each lemon on the countertop with your palm to release more juice.
  3. Cut the lemons in half crosswise using a sharp knife.
  4. Squeeze the juice from each lemon half into a measuring cup using a citrus juicer or a fork.
  5. Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher to remove seeds and pulp.
  6. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water.
  7. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar completely dissolves (about 3-5 minutes).
  8. Remove from heat and let it cool. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  9. In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and cooled simple syrup.
  10. Add 4 cups of cold water, adjusting to taste preference.
  11. Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.
  12. For a minty twist, muddle fresh mint leaves in the bottom of the pitcher before adding the lemonade mixture.
  13. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill.
  14. Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled lemonade over the ice.
  15. Garnish with thin lemon slices and fresh mint leaves for a decorative touch.

Notes

  • For variations, consider adding fresh berries, using sparkling water, or experimenting with different herbs.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more lemon juice or simple syrup as needed.
  • Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator and stir before serving if separation occurs.
