Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed is best)
- 1 cup vanilla-flavored vodka
- 1 bottle (750 ml) sparkling wine or champagne (brut or extra brut)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Orange slices, for garnish
- Whipped cream, for garnish (optional)
- Ice cubes (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, pour in the heavy cream. Make sure its cold for the best results.
- Add the powdered sugar to the cream to sweeten it without overpowering the other flavors.
- Add the vanilla extract to enhance the vanilla flavor in the drink.
- Using a hand mixer or a whisk, beat the mixture until soft peaks form. Be careful not to over-whip; it should be fluffy but still pourable.
- Set the cream mixture aside in the refrigerator to keep it chilled.
- In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed orange juice and the vanilla-flavored vodka.
- Stir gently with a spoon to combine the ingredients, avoiding splashes.
- Taste the mixture; if you prefer it sweeter, add more powdered sugar or a splash of simple syrup.
- Set the pitcher aside or refrigerate if making ahead of time.
- Chill your bottle of sparkling wine or champagne in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
- When ready to serve, carefully open the bottle, being cautious of the cork.
- Pour a small amount of sparkling wine into each glass, filling it about one-third of the way.
- Gently pour the orange juice and vodka mixture into each glass over the sparkling wine, filling about two-thirds full.
- Take the chilled cream mixture from the refrigerator and dollop or pour it on top of the orange juice mixture in each glass.
- Optionally, give the drink a gentle stir with a straw or spoon, or leave it layered for presentation.
- Add a dollop of whipped cream on top for extra creaminess and visual appeal.
- Garnish each glass with a slice of orange on the rim.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the vodka and sparkling wine with sparkling water and additional orange juice.
- Adjust the sweetness of the cream mixture to your preference by varying the amount of powdered sugar.
