- 8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Use a hand mixer or a whisk to blend the ingredients until smooth and creamy. Make sure there are no lumps in the mixture.
- Taste the filling and adjust the sweetness if necessary by adding more sugar or cinnamon according to your preference.
- Once the filling is well combined, set it aside to allow the flavors to meld while you prepare the bread.
- Take the slices of bread and remove the crusts using a sharp knife.
- Using a rolling pin, gently flatten each slice of bread.
- Once all the slices are flattened, lay them out on a clean surface or a large cutting board.
- Take a spoonful of the cream cheese filling and spread it evenly over one side of a flattened bread slice.
- Starting from one end, carefully roll the bread slice tightly around the filling.
- Repeat the process with the remaining bread slices and cream cheese filling until all the roll-ups are assembled.
- Once all the roll-ups are made, place them seam-side down on a plate or baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg (if using). Mix well.
- In another bowl, pour the melted butter.
- Take each roll-up and dip it into the melted butter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Next, roll the butter-coated roll-up in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until it is fully covered.
- Repeat this process for all the roll-ups.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.
- Arrange the coated roll-ups on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each roll-up.
- Once the oven is preheated, place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the roll-ups are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Keep an eye on them towards the end of the baking time to prevent over-browning.
- Once baked, remove the roll-ups from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet.
- While they are cooling, prepare a dusting of powdered sugar.
