Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup milk (optional, for a moister bread)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter. Use a fork or potato masher to achieve a smooth consistency.
- Add the granulated sugar to the banana mixture and stir until well combined.
- Crack in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking soda, salt, and all-purpose flour.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- In a small bowl, combine the cocoa powder with 1/4 cup of the prepared batter.
- If desired, add the optional milk to the remaining batter for extra moisture.
- Pour half of the banana batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
- Spoon the chocolate batter over the banana batter, spreading gently.
- Pour the remaining banana batter on top of the chocolate layer. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the two batters together.
- Sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips on top.
- Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes.
- Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice the bread into thick pieces and serve warm with butter or honey.
