Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional, for a moister bread)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter. Use a fork or potato masher to achieve a smooth consistency.
  3. Add the granulated sugar to the banana mixture and stir until well combined.
  4. Crack in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking soda, salt, and all-purpose flour.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  8. In a small bowl, combine the cocoa powder with 1/4 cup of the prepared batter.
  9. If desired, add the optional milk to the remaining batter for extra moisture.
  10. Pour half of the banana batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  11. Spoon the chocolate batter over the banana batter, spreading gently.
  12. Pour the remaining banana batter on top of the chocolate layer. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the two batters together.
  13. Sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips on top.
  14. Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  15. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes.
  16. Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely.
  17. Slice the bread into thick pieces and serve warm with butter or honey.

Notes

  • For a richer chocolate flavor, consider adding more chocolate chips or using dark chocolate.
