Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large russet potatoes
- 1 lb flank steak or skirt steak
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup guacamole
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup pico de gallo or diced tomatoes
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
- Jalapeños (optional, for extra heat)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water and pat them dry.
- Slice the potatoes into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Soak the cut potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
- Drain and pat the potatoes dry, then toss them in a large bowl with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Spread the potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Mix garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Rub this mixture over the steak and drizzle with olive oil. Let it marinate for at least 15-20 minutes.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.
- Remove the steak from heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
- Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips.
- Place the baked fries on a large serving platter.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the hot fries.
- Layer the sliced carne asada over the cheesy fries.
- Spoon guacamole and sour cream over the carne asada, then sprinkle pico de gallo or diced tomatoes on top.
- Finish with fresh cilantro and optional jalapeños.
- Enjoy the fries fresh out of the oven while crispy and cheesy.
- Serve with a refreshing margarita or cold beer.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the steak overnight.
- Adjust the spice levels by adding more or fewer jalapeños.
- These fries are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a crispy texture.
