- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, add 1 pound of ground pork.
- Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Add 1 teaspoon of dried sage and 1 teaspoon of dried thyme.
- If desired, add 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes for heat.
- Drizzle in 1 tablespoon of maple syrup (or honey).
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder.
- Sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (if using).
- Mix all ingredients together using your hands until well combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Take a small handful of the sausage mixture (about 2 tablespoons) and roll it into a log shape, approximately 3 inches in length.
- Repeat until all the mixture is shaped into links, yielding about 12-15 sausage links.
- Place the shaped sausage links on a plate or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully place the sausage links in the skillet, avoiding overcrowding.
- Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned, then turn them over gently.
- Cook for another 4-5 minutes on the other side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should read 160°F (70°C).
- Remove the sausage links from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
