Enjoy a comforting dish of Angel Chicken, featuring tender chicken breasts baked in a creamy sauce made with Italian dressing, cream soups, and melted cheese. This flavorful meal is perfect for family dinners and pairs well with rice or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry Italian dressing mix
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup (8 oz) sour cream
  • 1 cup (8 oz) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup (8 oz) sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (4 oz) chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup (2 oz) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Rinse the chicken breasts under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  3. Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken breasts to the skillet.
  5. Sear the chicken for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are golden brown. This step adds flavor and helps to lock in moisture.
  6. Once browned, remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.
  7. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the dry Italian dressing mix. Stir it into the remaining oil and drippings in the pan for about 1 minute to release the flavors.
  8. Add the cream of mushroom soup and cream of chicken soup to the skillet. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  9. Pour in the chicken broth and mix until the sauce is smooth and well combined.
  10. If using, add the sliced mushrooms to the sauce and stir to incorporate them evenly.
  11. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help meld the flavors together.
  12. In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of the sauce mixture on the bottom to prevent sticking.
  13. Place the seared chicken breasts in the baking dish, ensuring they are evenly spaced.
  14. Pour the remaining sauce mixture over the chicken, making sure each piece is well coated.
  15. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the chicken and sauce.
  16. Finally, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the mozzarella for an extra layer of flavor.
  17. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to keep the moisture in while baking.
  18. Place the covered dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  19. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  20. To check for doneness, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken; it should read 165°F (75°C).
  21. Once the chicken is fully cooked, remove the baking dish from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the chicken moist.
  22. Garnish the dish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and added flavor.
  23. Serve the Angel Chicken hot, spooning the creamy sauce over the chicken. This dish pairs wonderfully with rice, pasta, or a side of steamed vegetables.
  24. Enjoy your delicious Angel Chicken dish with family and friends!

Notes

  • For added flavor, marinate the chicken in the Italian dressing mix for a few hours or overnight before cooking.
