  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy the cozy flavors of air-fried stuffed apples, filled with a delightful mixture of oats, nuts, and spices. This warm dessert is perfect for a comforting treat or a special breakfast, especially when topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
  • 1/2 cup apple juice or water (for steaming)
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or wax. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
  2. Using a sharp knife or an apple corer, carefully remove the core from each apple, leaving the bottom intact.
  3. Score the skin around the middle of each apple with a small paring knife to prevent bursting during cooking.
  4. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, rolled oats, chopped nuts, and melted butter. Add raisins or dried cranberries if using.
  5. Mix until well combined; the mixture should be crumbly but hold together when pressed.
  6. Generously stuff each apple with the filling, pressing down slightly to pack it in. Mound it on top for a delicious crust.
  7. Place the stuffed apples upright in a heatproof dish or directly in the air fryer basket.
  8. Pour apple juice or water into the bottom of the air fryer basket or dish to create steam.
  9. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes.
  10. Carefully place the dish with the stuffed apples into the air fryer basket.
  11. Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes, checking for doneness at the 15-minute mark.
  12. Insert a fork into the side of an apple; it should slide in easily but still have some firmness. Continue cooking in 2-3 minute increments if needed.
  13. Carefully remove the apples from the air fryer using tongs or a spatula.
  14. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.
  15. Drizzle extra melted butter over the top if desired.
  16. Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  17. For an extra touch, sprinkle additional cinnamon or drizzle caramel sauce over the top.
  18. These baked apples also make a fantastic breakfast option with yogurt and granola.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness by using more or less brown sugar based on your preference.
