Description
A refreshing and creamy Mexican-inspired strawberry milk drink, perfect for a hot day! Made with fresh strawberries, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and a touch of vanilla.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced (about 4 cups)
- 4 cups water, divided
- ½ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
- ½ (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (about 7 ounces)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Ice cubes, as needed
- Optional Garnishes: Fresh strawberry slices, mint sprigs
Instructions
- Prepare Strawberry Base: In a blender, combine sliced strawberries, 2 cups of water, and granulated sugar. Blend on high speed until completely smooth.
- Strain (Optional): For a smoother drink, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth-lined colander, pressing down to extract juice.
- Taste and Adjust Sweetness: Taste the strawberry base and add more sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, if needed. Blend until dissolved.
- Combine with Milk: In a large pitcher, pour the strawberry base. Add the evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk.
- Add Vanilla: Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Stir Well: Thoroughly combine all ingredients until uniform in color and consistency.
- Add Remaining Water: Pour in the remaining 2 cups of water. Stir to combine.
- Taste and Adjust Sweetness (Again!): Taste again and add more sweetened condensed milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, if needed.
- Chill: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably longer, to allow flavors to meld.
- Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled Agua de Fresa con Leche over the ice.
- Garnish (Optional): Garnish with fresh strawberry slices or mint sprigs.
Notes
- Use ripe, juicy strawberries for the best flavor.
- Straining the strawberry mixture is optional but recommended for a smoother texture.
- Adjust the sweetness to your preference by adding more sugar or sweetened condensed milk.
- For a vegan version, substitute the evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk with plant-based alternatives like coconut milk or oat milk.
- Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
